Kathmandu Durbar square

Kathmandu Durbar Square is one of the three durbar squares of the Kathmandu valley. It is located in the heart of the capital city, Kathmandu. It is also known as Basantapur Durbar Square.

Kathmandu Durbar Square was originally formed from the palaces and courtyards of Malla and Shah Kings. The oldest temples were built by MahendraMalla.  The Durbar Square was expanded by PratapMalla.
The major attractions of Kathmandu Durbar Square are the art and architectures, palaces, temples, indigenous people, the housing pattern, etc. Most of the temples are in pagoda style. There are large numbers of temples, idols, and chowks which make the durbar square one of its kind. There is a stone carving of KaalBhairav who is thegod of destruction. At one corner, there exists Shiva-Parbati Dahgal where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parbati are looking out from asecond storied window, built by King Rana Bahadur Shah. One can see a white colonnaded Royal Palace flanked by the house of the living Goddess Kumari. The main window from where Kumari looks is made of gold.
One can feel immense happiness after visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square.
